Travelin' On...
The Lewis & Clark Trail
It was the very first trail blazed across the United States of America. To this
day much of it remains as pristine as it was when William Clark and Meriwether
Lewis conquered this savage landscape. Join us as we visit, what were
once hostile and uncharted territories, and rediscover the endless beauty
it still possesses today. You will learn about the everyday danger that
Lewis and Clark faced, from flash floods to grizzly bear attacks, and
come to appreciate their bravery. It's a modern day look at a truly epic
crusade from sea to shining sea.
Featured Locations:
St. Louis, MO - Visit the past and present of a city where the
greatest expedition in the United States history launched. What was once
a training camp for Lewis and Clark's men is now a city sprawling with
activity and commerce.
Council
Bluff's, NE - Lewis and Clark made their first contact with Indians
at this site. Presently, a monument stands overlooking the entire city
to commemorate this journey.
Great Falls, MT - It is no wonder that the party decided to stay
here longer than any of their other sites. This collection of stunningly
beautiful waterfalls cascade down five levels and reach heights up to
89 feet.
Bitterroot Mountains, MT - Lewis and Clark needed guides and horses
to cross this section of the Rocky Mountains. Today, however, you can
view this range very easily by taking U.S. route 93 which traverses the
exact route that the expedition took.
Astoria, OR - When Lewis and Clark visited this site they claimed
the conditions to be so distressing that their leather clothing began
to rot away. Today it stands as the oldest American settlement West of
the Rockies. Witness breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean as rocky
crags rip through the surf of Cannon Beach. And not far inland, behold
the emerald green forests which makes the Pacific Northwest legendary,
