MOTION CONTROL:

Yale Video is the only post-production facility in Orange County with a motion control platform. If you have ever tried to shoot artwork with a camera, you will appreciate the difficulty of panning and zooming "smoothly" across a small image. Just try and do that on a 35mm slide. The Manipulator 2000 system at Yale Video uses a computer to zoom, pan, title, and spin images through multiple "keyframes" along a precise timeline.

The system is located in a room just off of the machine room and has access to any format we have. Normally, it is configured with a Betacam-SP recording. The hourly rate includes editor, system, and deck. It can be booked for as little as an hour, and you can get 10 to 20 images shot in that time. We can support virtually any image-format you need: 35mm slides (mounted or unmounted), transparencies (mounted or unmounted) 2¼", 4" x 5" and various sizes up to 8" x 10". Prints, from contact-sheet up to large formats. (The largest visible area at any one time is approximately 2 x 2¼ feet.

The operator uses joysticks to set keyframes for start and end positions and after quickly setting other variables such as duration, acceleration/deceleration and delays, smooth linear or even curved moves can be performed. If you also need a reverse of the last move it can be performed almost instantly. Everything happens in real-time. No rendering time!
